Tony Vandermaas, Town Crier

Oyez...oyez...oyez...

This cry, along with the peal of the hand bell, announces the arrival of the Town Crier and summon all within reach of the sound of its peal to pay heed to the news that he/she brings.

Today's Town Criers (nearly 60 in Ontario alone, and more around the world) are yet called to make announcements, open ceremonies and conferences, and generally add colour to many occasions, public and private. They may bear gladder tidings than those of old, but their strong, clear and confident delivery still demand attention.

Tony Vandermaas is one of these modern-day Town Criers, the Official Town Crier for the City of Thorold, a post he has held since 1999, sometimes accompanied by his wife, Penny, who also makes his uniforms.
